Extreme Sailing Series Muscat won by Morgan Larson

Morgan Larson of the United States snatched an extraordinary victory in the first Act of the Extreme Sailing Serie 2016 in Muscat on Oman Air, along with the team that has James Wierzbowski, Pete Greenhalgh, Ed Smyth as well as Omani citizen Nasser Al Mashari.

Dominating the new foiling GC32, Oman Air won more than fifty percent of the races sailed, which is more than any other squad in Series history, as Extreme Sailing Series completes the largest transition of the past ten years.

Larson told that it was a magnificent week for the whole squad and obviously great to do that here on home waters. They sailed at the top level. Therefore, it is going to take a whole lot of work for them to improve on from here. They know that a few of the other teams have some things to do and when they get that right, they are going to be right there with them. They know that they are going to push and they have to keep on getting better.

Muscat secured the best for last, zigzagging up the breeze for the last 2 races which literally saw the 8 GC32s flying around the path, and at times tottering on the edge. Going into the final race – 4 boats Land Rover BAR Academy, SAP Extreme Sailing Team, Croatia Yacht Charters, Alinghi and Red Bull Sailing Team – were running for the podium spots.

Gram-Hansen stated that they are very much disappointed at this point of time. They have been 2nd throughout the whole meet. They had a magnificent beginning, and they were leading the race and unfortunately they did not take the right course, they thought that they were heading to the end and there was still one lap to go. They made a huge mistake.
